Early Warning Signs of a DVT

A DVT is a a blood clot that can form in the deeper veins in your legs or arms.  When these clots form, they can be very dangerous.

Here are 7 early warning signs of a potential DVT.

• Pain in your legs, chronic pain
• Warmth in your legs or your legs are feeling warmer or hotter to the touch
• Swelling in your legs and ankles
• Leg cramps that are persistent and often felt starting in the calf muscle
• Redness in your legs, this is also usually accompanied by swelling or warmth
• Leg pain that gets worse when you bend your foot or walk
• Skin discoloration – often seeing a more blue or white hue to the skin

While it’s common to have only one and not all of these symptoms, having any one of these can be very serious.  If you or someone you love has been experiencing any of the early warning signs and symptoms above, contact your board certified surgeon ASAP.
