Ablation is a same-day, outpatient procedure that is often recommended for patients who want to reduce the effects or improve the appearance of varicose veins. Radiofrequency ablation heats and collapses abnormal vein tissue, allowing blood to flow naturally through surrounding healthy veins, and usually restores natural coloring to the skin around the treated area.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein deep within the body, often the thigh or calf. Without treatment, the clot can break free and travel to the heart or lungs, potentially causing death. Sclerotherapy is a commonly recommended treatment for varicose veins and spider veins. A brief injection (or quick series of injections) scars the inside of the varicose vein, causing it to close and normal blood flow to be rerouted to surrounding vessels. Patients wear compression stockings for several days or more after the procedure, and are generally able to resume normal activity including exercise within just a few days.

The procedure is also referred to as Uterine Artery Embolization. Fibroid tumors arise from the muscular wall of the uterus. This causes heavy menstrual bleeding, pain in the pelvis region and pressure on the bladder or bowel. These then block the arteries that provide blood flow, causing the fibroids to shrink. Varicocele: -Varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum. This occurs in about one in six males but unlike varicose veins in the legs, it is more common in younger males, ages 15-25. Varicoceles are believed to be caused by defective valves in the veins within the scrotum, just above the testicles. These valves regulate the flow of blood to and from the testicles. When normal flow doesn’t occur, the blood backs up, causing the veins to enlarge. This most commonly takes place during puberty, when the testicles are experiencing rapid growth and need the most blood. Treatment is necessary only for infertility or if the varicocele causes persistent pain or discomfort or significant testicular atrophy. Surgical treatment of the varicocele usually involves tying off the affected vein to redirect the blood flow toward normal veins. Surgery can be open or laparoscopic, and is done on an outpatient basis.
