Salt. It’s a favorite of everyone’s these days. It’s quite addicting and we know it can be challenging to eat only one chip… But how could it be affecting your vein health?
Vein Health and Salt
Salt can expand your blood volume by retaining fluids in the venous circulatory system and can increase blood pressure.
It’s important to know, for proper vein health, you need to reduce and limit your salt intake. Making healthier food choices and by reading labels when out food shopping is a good way to start limiting salt intake. Also, not adding salt to your food is another way to keep salt from your diet.
However, salt can be tricky. It’s in almost everything you buy these days. You may assume that just because you didn’t add salt to your meal, that there isn’t any. Packaged and processed food tends to have quite a bit of sodium in them, which sodium = salt. And if you are eating a lot of packaged or processed food, it’s highly likely you are having a lot of salt too. Surprisingly you can even find it in cereal or soda!
By choosing healthier and fresh whole foods you’ll be able to start managing your salt intake much better!
