What is limb salvage?

What are the causes of limb salvage?

There a many conditions in which can increase your risk of disease in your limbs such as;

• Atherosclerosis – This is when cholesterol builds up over time as a plaque in the walls of your arteries.  This can either limit or block the blood flow to the limbs.
• PAD (Peripherial Arterial Disease) – This occurs when your arteries in your lower limbs begin to harden up and narrow.  When this happens, it blocks blood flow to the leg, ankle and foot.
• Diabetic foot disease – People who suffer from diabetes also run the high risk of chronic nerve damage and circulation issues in their legs and feet.  This impast limb functionality and mobility as well as increases the risk for ulcers and wounds.
• Leg aneurysms – weak or bulging arterial walls make it much easier for blood clots to build and potentially block blood flow.  If blood flow to a limb is blocked, the limb can become damaged.
• Wounds  – If wounds or chronic sores or cutes on the feet, ankles and legs are not treated properly or in a timely manner, infections can develop and can cause gangrene and tissue decay, resulting in limb issues.
