Vein & Vascular Ultrasounds

A vascular ultrasound gives a picture of the structural form of the veins within the body. Using Doppler technology and physicians can get a closer look at how the blood circulates through the veins. Imagery of the veins are made through using high frequency sound and not using dangerous radiation which is found in x-rays used to photograph bones and other bodily structures. Vascular ultrasounds also provide the patient with a non-invasive way to get an exam without the use of uncomfortable means like insertion of cameras to use for diagnostic exams.

A vascular ultrasound can and could be used to:

-Pinpoint and look for blood clots in places that are considered dangerous areas of the body such as the legs.

-Determine and help with proper diagnosis such as swelling in the legs

-Helps doctors to determine which blood valves are causing varicose veins

-Assist in the insertion of needles and catheters to treat blockages (clots forming)

In a few cases, vascular ultrasounds are used in combination with various vein removal therapies as well.

When vascular ultrasounds are used for diagnostic testing, a venous ultrasound is non-evasive so patients don’t have to worry about incisions and scarring. It’s also painless so there’s little recover time after the procedure is done. This is widely available and is much more inexpensive than other methods out there and using Doppler technology will provide a crystal-clear picture of the soft tissue membranes that may not show up clearly on a standard x-ray image. A regular vascular ultrasound will not have any known or documented side effects.

A highly trained vascular doctor or ultrasound tech specialist will be able to use the ultrasound images created during the exam to evaluate blood flow and structure and to diagnose and properly treat the condition of the vascular system with the current treatment options offered through your doctor or specialist.
